DNS "Active Users" Usage Statistics
-
There are three web-browsing DNS addresses:
- 45.55.142.122 ("Switchbru DNS", US East coast server)
- 45.55.112.11 (BDNS, US West coast)
- 46.101.65.164 (BDNS, UK)
The first one has existed pretty much as long as the Switch itself has, since March 2017, whereas the other two launched alongside this forum in 2022.
On this URL: https://uk-central.browsedns.net/data/ You can see how many active users are currently using each DNS address. These are "unique users that used the browser in the last 20 minutes".
Since that original server has existed for so long, it's the most commonly used one. Also the Switchbru landing page is just more convenient for bookmarks and stuff. (Keep in mind, these numbers are just for the actual DNS usage, not website traffic).
Snapshot of each DNS's usage right now (January 21, 2024):
Anyway, just sharing these statistics in case it's interesting to see how popular using a browser on the Switch actually is. I feel that several hundred active individual users at any given hour of the day should have been enough to try to convince Nintendo to open up the browser.
It's at least enough for me to continue feeling like there's value to running the service. I'm going to work next on making a dashboard with charts of usage data over time, as well as total unique users per day.
